Hello everyone! Today is a very special day for localguides-ranking.com. I’m looking at the dashboard and can hardly believe it myself: We have cracked the unbelievable mark of 400,000 registered profiles!
This milestone is a great moment to pause for a second and look back.
From 50 to 400,000: A Little Time Travel
When I launched this site back in the day, there were exactly 50 profiles in the database. At that time, it was absolutely unimaginable for me to ever unite a truly significant number of Local Guides on this platform.
That was mainly due to two major doubts I had in the beginning: First, I simply didn't know how to get my hands on so many profiles in the first place. How would people find out about LGR? How do you build such a large community? Second, there was the technical hurdle. Querying and saving 50 profiles is one thing. But managing hundreds of thousands of profiles, cleanly fetching the data every day, processing it, and storing it historically – that seemed way too big of a task for a solo developer.
Today, with 400,000 profiles in the database, I know: It was a gigantic technical challenge, but it was worth it. It is exactly for dimensions like this that I switched the system to "smart syncs" in recent months and constantly expanded the server infrastructure. The site runs smoother and more stably today with 400,000 profiles than it did back then with the first thousand.
The Community Makes the Difference
The fact that LGR is so big today is primarily due to you. You register your profiles, share the site in your communities, use our widgets, and constantly give me valuable feedback. Without this global interest, I probably never would have scaled the project this far.
For that, I just want to say a huge thank you! It is an incredible feeling to build a tool that is used daily by so many passionate Local Guides all over the world.
🤓 A Few Current Nerd Stats
To make the dimension of 400,000 profiles tangible, I pulled a few current numbers from the database:
- 722.29M uploaded photos come together through these profiles.
- In total, these 400,000 guides have generated an unbelievable 6.64T views.
- 9,620 of these profiles have already reached the legendary Level 10.
