Kicking off our new blog – the why, the value, and what’s next

Quick intro: Local Guides Ranking

localguides-ranking.com has been around for almost a year. It started as a vacation brainwave: we wanted a way to see how we compare with other Google Local Guides. The first prototype went live in about 24 hours, and we’ve been improving it ever since.

We’re a tiny team of two, running this project on the side. That’s why new features don’t always land as fast as we’d like. Data collection is also tricky: the site is not monetized, Google doesn’t provide an easy public interface for profile data, and our server capacity is limited. We have plenty of new profiles in the pipeline, but to keep the platform stable we add them gradually and in small batches.

Long term, we’d love to get API access from Google to publicly available profile data. Until then, Local Guides Ranking remains what it has always been: a passion project.

Why a blog now?

The site has received amazing community feedback – thank you! But we lacked a clear channel to communicate updates, context, and our roadmap. That’s what this blog is for.

What’s in it for you?
